Blue Economy
WELCOME TO THE BLUE ECONOMY
The Department of the Blue Economy was created in 2020 to ensure that Antigua and Barbuda develops its marine spaces thoughtfully and sustainably. Our mandate includes coordinating national ocean-related policies, supporting the growth of responsible ocean industries, building local capacity, strengthening international partnerships, and promoting awareness of the value of our marine environment. Public education also plays a major role—helping citizens understand how the ocean supports everything from food security and jobs to climate resilience and cultural identity.
While the Department is still young, our progress over the past year has been significant. We have begun establishing the foundation for a modern, science-based, and forward-looking Blue Economy—one that positions Antigua and Barbuda as a regional leader.
Our Vision Moving Forward
The Blue Economy belongs to all of us. Our mission is to ensure that every citizen—regardless of background—benefits from the opportunities our ocean provides. As we continue to grow, the department is committed to forming strong partnerships, supporting innovation, and keeping the public engaged and informed.
