PRAEDIAL LARCENY – BAD NEWS

Praedial Larceny by Jamalee Jarvis
To simply put it, Praedial larceny is when someone steals or take crops, farm animals, or other agricultural tools from a farm without the farmer’s permission. It is a serious crime, heartless and a growing concern.
Farmers invest a lot of time and money on seeds, tools, animal feed, water, and other things they need for their farms, additionally, they put in many hours of hard work to cultivate food and take care of their animals.
Therefore, it is unfair for someone to steal their crops or animals this causes loss of income, more expense to start over and demotivate anyone. This wrongdoing can also make it harder for them to take care of their farms and provide food for their families and other people.
Praedial larceny does not only affect farmers. It can also affect the whole country because when crops and animals are stolen, it a threat on Food Security especially when done on a wholesale basis, meaning primarily for exportation.
I believe that everyone has a part to play in helping to discourage “Praedial larceny” by stop purchasing from any unregistered farmers and vendors, report such activities to the Ministry of Agriculture or the Police and be a part of the solution and not contribute to the problem.
We should respect our farmers and their properties. We should support them and consume local produce.
