Antigua and Barbuda Joins China in Celebrating 77th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China by Tyreke Horsford

St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda – September 29, 2026 — The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Antigua and Barbuda hosted a special reception on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in celebration of the upcoming 77th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The occasion brought together government officials, members of the diplomatic community, invited guests and friends of China to commemorate the significant national milestone and to celebrate the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Antigua and Barbuda.
The welcome remarks were delivered by Mr. Zhang Peng, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Antigua and Barbuda, who welcomed guests to the celebration and highlighted the importance of the occasion. Zhang Peng currently serves as Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Antigua and Barbuda.
The celebration also provided an opportunity to reflect on the strong diplomatic relationship that has developed between China and Antigua and Barbuda over more than four decades. The two countries formally established diplomatic relations in 1983, and their bilateral relationship has since encompassed cooperation and exchanges in a number of areas.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda, The Right Honourable Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, extended heartfelt congratulations to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China on reaching 77 years since the founding of the modern Chinese state.
Prime Minister Browne also expressed appreciation for the continued support and cooperation extended by China to the people of Antigua and Barbuda over the years. His remarks reflected the longstanding relationship between the two nations and acknowledged the importance of continued cooperation in advancing national development and strengthening bilateral ties.
His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda, also delivered a congratulatory message to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China in recognition of the 77th anniversary.
Sir Rodney extended warm wishes to the Chinese people while acknowledging the friendship that has developed between Antigua and Barbuda and China. The Governor-General has previously highlighted the more than four decades of uninterrupted cooperation between both countries and Antigua and Barbuda’s longstanding diplomatic relationship with the People’s Republic of China.
The anniversary celebration served not only as a commemoration of China’s national development and achievements over the past 77 years, but also as an opportunity to reaffirm the friendship shared between the peoples of China and Antigua and Barbuda.
As the People’s Republic of China officially observes its 77th National Day on October 1, 2026, the reception in Antigua and Barbuda underscored the importance both nations continue to place on diplomatic engagement, friendship, cooperation and mutual respect.
The occasion concluded on a celebratory note, with those in attendance joining in extending best wishes to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China on this significant national milestone.
