My experience at Victory Centre by Jamalee Jarvis
On Tuesday 22nd September, I went to Victory Centre on an assignment to cover an Agricultural project supported by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and funded by GEF Small Grant Project. It was a very amazing experience for me, one of the things that stood out to me was the irrigation system used in this project. The special needs students were learning under a shed how they could plant and transplant seedlings. Additionally, they also learned how the irrigation system worked and how it helped to give water to the plants.
I also learned that they use a medium which was a combination of coconut husk mixed with Pro-Mix, this they used to help the plants grow better.
My highlight of the day was when I assisted some of the students with their tasks and it was really interesting to see how everything worked. During this time, I also helped to transplant thyme, celery and lettuce.
It was a moment well spent and I enjoyed the experience because I met some special persons, got to learn new things and do some practical work at the same time.
