World Ozone Day is celebrated every year on September 16. It is a day to raise awareness about the importance of the O-Zone Layer and the need to protect it from substances that cause ozone depletion.

The theme for World Ozone Day 2026 is “Global Action for a Cooler Planet.” This theme focuses on the importance of countries and communities working together to protect the O-Zone Layer and create a healthier, cooler planet. It reminds us that taking action to protect the environment can benefit not only the O-Zone Layer but also agriculture, ecosystems, and future generations.

The O-Zone Layer is region of the stratosphere that is roughly about 15–35 km above Earth and also contains a high concentration of ozone that absorb 97–99% of the Sun’s harmful radiation.

Why is the O-zone important to Agriculture?

The O-Zone Layer is crucial when it comes to Agriculture as it protects crops from harmful UV radiation. And without it farming at a scale would need different approaches and also synthetic materials that would degrade faster under the intense radiation.

Polymers usually use outdoors infrastructure to from building materials to vehicle components and also break down when exposed to a high-energy UV wavelengths.
