STEM InFuSED Exhibition Inspires Innovation and Sustainable Thinking by Shenequa Williams

Hosted at the Sir Novelle Richards Academy, the exhibition featured a variety of student-led projects designed to address real-world challenges through science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The event began with a student-produced video highlighting the journey of the participants before visitors toured the different exhibition stations.

Throughout the exhibition, students confidently presented projects in coding, robotics, artificial intelligence, game development and environmental science. Coding demonstrations using Micro:bit technology illustrated how programming can be applied to create practical tools, while robotics projects showcased the students’ engineering and design skills.

A strong emphasis was also placed on sustainability. Students developed innovative concepts such as smart water management systems capable of monitoring water quality, pressure and storage levels, greywater recycling systems, aquaponics monitoring technology, and devices designed to monitor marine environments and reduce pollution through the collection of sargassum and floating debris.

The exhibition also highlighted students’ creativity through digital media and marketing projects, including professionally developed advertisements and promotional videos for local organisations, demonstrating the integration of technology with communication and storytelling.

I was particularly impressed by the confidence with which the students explained their projects and the thoughtful ways they used technology to develop solutions for issues affecting communities and the environment. Their passion, creativity and technical knowledge reflected the tremendous value of STEM education in preparing the next generation of innovators and leaders.

The STEM InFuSED Exhibition was a true celebration of innovation, collaboration and sustainable thinking, proving that today’s young people are already building the solutions that will help shape a smarter and more resilient future for Antigua and Barbuda.
