Barbuda Ocean Festival and Fishing Tournament this Weekend by Brent Simon

Antigua’s sister island of Barbuda is gearing up to host the annual Barbuda Ocean Festival and Fishing Tournament this Saturday, November 15, 2025.
The event centered at the Barbuda Fisheries Complex, starts at noon and promises a full day of excitement, featuring the island’s best anglers competing for top prizes, along with a vibrant display of local talent and creativity. Visitors can look forward to a wide variety of homemade products, island cuisine, and handmade crafts from local vendors — each showcasing the heart and entrepreneurial spirit of Barbuda.
Beyond the competition, the festival stands as a celebration of community pride, sustainable use of marine resources, and the deep bond between the people and the sea. Yet it is also a time for reflection — to remember those we have lost to the ocean’s depths.
Around this time last year, Barbuda mourned the disappearance of several of its fishermen, and this year, Antigua too has felt that same sorrow. The festival therefore carries a quiet reminder of the risks and sacrifices that come with life on the water.
As we celebrate, may we honour their memory by valuing the sea not only as a source of livelihood and beauty, but also with the respect and caution it deserves.
All are invited to come out, support local, and be part of this unique celebration of Barbuda’s culture, courage, and coastal heritage.
