COL L3F meeting with Poultry Farmers by Carol-Faye Bynoe-George
On Tuesday 25th August, the final meeting of a series of three for the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) L3F Livelihood Development Program Initiative was held with the poultry farmers at the Multipurpose Centre.
Hosted by the Commonwealth of learning Mr. Owolabi Elabanjo/Chief Agricultural Extension Officer, Ms. Petranilla Estreada/COL project Assistant and Dr. Chere Kellman/ Veterinary Officer.
After the introduction of the project proposal was done, further explanation was given pertaining to the main objectives of the meeting with the group. The proposals potential benefits include Food and Nutrition Security, Import substitution, Economic growth, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Development.
Data relevant for the implementation and expansion of the production of broilers was one of the requirements for resubmission of the proposal and for the acquisition of future funding through project proposals. Record Keeping and Training was a requirement in the terms and conditions for Farmers as well as seeing the rearing of Poultry as a Business.
The farmers were encouraged to submit information pertaining to production cost which includes cost of chickens, housing, medication, equipment and transportation etc. so that the proposal can be resubmitted to cabinet.
