WEEK 5/DAY 3 – MOA INTERNS VISIT KIMKAYS NURSERY by Keairra Smith & Carol-Faye Bynoe-George

The interns took a trip to KimKays Plant nursery and landscaping owned and operated by Mr. Kem Warner.  Mr. Warner, a certified banker, financial expert and a bonified entrepreneur finally found the time to indulge in his passion “Plants”.

KimKays has been opened for five (5) years and has over twenty thousand plants on property and as many as over two hundred species.  Though the majority of plants grown there are ornamentals, found there at Kimkays are also a wide variety of tea bushes, cactus, shrubs, variety of trees such as banana, pink lemon, oranges and mangoes.

He advised the interns never limit yourself to one source of income and you can do anything you put your mind to.  Additionally, he briefly explained about diversification, risk management and gave other vital tips pertaining to business and entrepreneurship.

By using himself as a prime example, Mr. Warner shared with the interns the nature of his business at KimKays. He sells a potting mix for plants and explained that it was better than soil for several reasons such as proper drainage and prevent waterlogged and root rot.

Additionally, he provides landscape services, plant rentals and venue designs/decorations.  The interns also observed that there were rabbit, turtles and cats which were unexpected attractions.
