Long Ping High Tech Corporation Continues Its Generous Giving by Brent Simon

The Long Ping High Tech Corporation (LPHTC) has once again demonstrated its commitment to agriculture and community development in Antigua and Barbuda. On January 7th, through their agricultural project approximately four hundred and fifty (450) pounds of red watermelons and five hundred (500) pounds of Chinese cabbage (Bok Choy) were donated to fourteen institutions in an informal ceremony held at the Extension Division. The crops were cultivated in open fields at the Green Castle Agricultural Station.

The attendees included representatives from institutions such as the Salvation Army, Her Majesty’s Prisons Kitchen, and the National School Meals Programme. However, three institutions—Mount St. John’s Hospital Paediatric Ward, Love and Care Elderly Home, and Premier Senior Living Home—were unable to attend. However, arrangements were made to ensure they receive their share of the donation.

The event was chaired by Mrs. Maudvere Bradford/Senior Research Officer, who also heads the newly created Liaison Committee implemented by Mr. Walter Christopher/Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture.

Ms Colleen Simpson/Head Chef at the National School Meals Programme expressed her gratitude for a recipient of the produce. She also noted that part of the donation would be utilized for breakfast, the new initiative introduced for students where each day they are served with a fruit.

The representative of St John’s Hospice Ms Cathy Gilkes was also happy to be a part of the LPHTC sharing exercise and she said the fruits and vegetables would be utilized by the patients of the institution.

This donation not only highlights LPHTC generosity but also underscores the significance of agricultural partnerships in enhancing food security, promoting sustainability and supporting local communities.
