PRESS RELEASE – ATTEMPTED THEFT
Ministry of Agriculture Condemns Attempted Theft: Calls for National Accountability
The Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Fisheries and the Blue Economy expresses its outright disgust, over the recent attempted theft of air conditioning units destined for the benefit of residents through an environmentally conscious distribution program organized by the Department of the Environment.
This shameful act not only jeopardizes public trust but undermines efforts to enhance the quality of life for our citizens, particularly amid rising temperatures and energy efficiency needs.
The Ministry strongly believes that the nations progress relies on every citizen embracing accountability, discipline, and respect for communal resources. Public goods, financed and maintained through collective efforts, must be treated as sacred tools for national growth, not as opportunities for exploitation. Such irresponsible acts place undue strain on government resources and tarnish the country’s image.
Civic responsibility begins with self-discipline and adherence to the principles of honesty and respect for others. Acts of theft, no matter how minor they may seem, destabilize communities and erode the values that bind us as a nation.
We want to publicly thank the swift action of law enforcement to safeguard these resources and assures the public that security measures have been heightened to prevent future incidents. However, real security lies in a society where individuals take personal responsibility for their actions.
The future of Antigua and Barbuda depends on collective integrity. Public assets are entrusted to serve the people and safeguarding them is everyone’s duty. Together, let us foster a culture where the needs of many outweigh the selfish desires of the few.
