Over 4,000 seedlings were distributed to farmers, backyard gardeners and other interested individuals, marking another fruitful collaboration between LongPing High-Tech and the Ministry of Agriculture.
The initiative was spearheaded to encourage local food production, support sustainable agriculture, and promote healthier dietary choices among Antiguans and Barbudans. The response from the public was overwhelmingly positive, with participants expressing excitement about the opportunity to enhance their farms and home gardens with quality broccoli seedlings.
Mr. Owolabi Elabanjo/Chief Extension Officer, expressed his satisfaction with the turnout and the smooth execution of the event. “The distribution was a success,” Elabanjo remarked, emphasizing the enthusiasm of participants and the importance of such initiatives in strengthening food security. He also hinted that this could be the beginning of a recurring effort. “The public can expect this to become a regular feature,” he added, signaling the Ministry’s commitment to expanding support for local agriculture.
Programs like this broccoli seedling distribution not only empower individuals to grow food but also strengthen community bonds and environmental stewardship. As the seedlings take root across Antigua, the hope is that this project will yield not only an abundant broccoli harvest but also inspire a greater commitment to home gardening and agricultural development.
