Global Youth Climate Training Programme (GYCT) 2024

The GYCT is a free capacity-building programme designed for individuals aged 16-35. This initiative, a collaboration between the Global Youth Coalition (GYC) and the University of Oxford, aims to equip participants with the knowledge and confidence needed to effectively engage in climate policy discussions. The programme offers a unique blend of perspectives, combining the expertise of young climate leaders and seasoned researchers.

Programme Details:

  • Duration: 3 September – 1 October 2024, with a final session on 1 November 2024.
  • Schedule: Sessions will be held between 1-5 pm UTC, with timings adjusted to suit the cohort’s time zones.
  • Application Deadline: 10 August 2024, 23:59 UTC. Admissions are on a rolling basis, with all decisions communicated by 23 August 2024.

Special Opportunity: COP29 Bursary

Through the support of the ClimateWorks Foundation, 5 bursaries will be offered to participants to attend COP29. This bursary, up to £3000, covers travel, accommodation, food, and transport. Please note, accreditation is not included.

Application Process:

  2. Bursary Criteria: Priority is given to applicants from diverse regions and groups most impacted by climate change.

Background:

The GYCT programme was launched in May 2023 and has since trained over 4,500 activists from 177 countries. The curriculum, developed with input from young climate justice activists, covers critical topics such as Climate Finance, Loss & Damage, and Adaptation & Resilience. The programme is inclusive, offering sessions in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
