INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN
The history of this awareness and celebration started as far back as 1908 when 15,000 women marched through the streets of New York City as protest and demand for shorter hours, better salaries/wages and entitlement to vote at the general elections. This action only achieved two consecutive years of National Woman’s Day in 1909 and 1910 but got worldwide attention.
In 1911, the International Day of Women (IDW) began in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on 19th March. and went through several changed before it was agreed to have the occasion commemorated annually on 8th March.
The main focus is in regards to Gender Equality, Reproductive Rights, Violence and Abuse against WOMEN worldwide.
For 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture highlighted twenty-four of its female staff and will continue to do so in addition to motivate and support all in reaching their fullest potential.
