CARDI VISIT TO MONSTERRAT
Mr. Junior Greene, Caribbean Agriculture Research and Development Institute (CARDI) representative for Antigua/Barbuda and Montserrat recently visited Montserrat. While there he was engaged in discussions with agricultural officials, farmers and other stakeholders.
The focus of this visit was to give assistance in addressing the challenges faced by farmers and exploring potential solutions. Additionally, these meetings were centered on support for the government and the local agricultural programs. The roundtable discussions were held with crop and mixed farmers, management and staff members of the Agricultural and Environmental departments.
The Ministries representatives included Dr. Selwyn Maloney- Director of Agriculture, Honorable Minister Crenston Buffonge – Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Joseph Manager of the Nursery, and Ms. Ernistine – Director of Environment.
CARDI promised to work with the farmers, by assisting in the provision of climate resistant forages, high quality stock and provision of disease resistant seeds. According to Mr. Greene, CARDI intends to enhance its presence on Montserrat as an effort of being a bolster to the agricultural sector there.
