Seminar on Food Safety and Health for Developing Countries
A seminar organized by the Jiangsu Inspection and Quarantine Institute of Quality was held from 11th October to 1st November, 2023 in Heping, Changzhou Province.
There were a total of 16 participants from developing countries namely; Jordan, Suriname, South Africa, Ethiopia, Somalia, Lesotho and Tanzania. Four participants from Antigua and Barbuda were Mr. Jahmarni Thomas, Ms. Latonya Slowe, and Ms. Karema Barclay who represented the Ministry of Agriculture and Ms. Charmaine Orregio from the Private Sector.
The training course focused on the following areas; Overview of China, Current situation of Food Safety in China, Quality and Safety on Animal Derived Food, Food Borne Pathogens and Health, China’s Experience in reform, Application Theory of Food Safety Risk Assessment, Food Additives and Human Health, Food Contact Material and Food Safety, Import and Export of products from China, Establishment and Development of Food Pollution Monitoring System of China, Environment Protection of Production Place, Agricultural Products and Treatment on contamination and pollution, Post-Harvest Freshness and Preservation Technology.
The objectives of the seminar were to provide new theories and technologies on commodity inspection, food sanitation, safety certification, accreditation and standardization. The course consisted of lectures, field trips, symposiums and cultural experiences. During the seminar we also received knowledge on experiences in food inspection and food safety control.
Overall, the seminar was a great learning experience and provided valuable insights into the measures taken by the People’s Republic of China to ensure food safety control. Finally, the mutual trust between China and Antigua and Barbuda would be strengthened and enhanced enabling cooperation and exchanges, so as to further promote the trade and economic exchanges and common development.
