The GreenSys2023 International Symposium
Over 150 individuals from more than 30 countries participated in the event, and were immersed in lectures and findings from scientists and researchers in the areas of Greenhouse Crop modelling and Climate Control management with particular focus on protected cultivation, Hydroponics, Automation and Artificial intelligence (AI) in crop production.Three technicians from the caribbean region were selected by the FAO to attend this session including Mr. Ika Fergus, Extension Officer within the Agricultural Extension Division and FAO National Correspondent.“From my perspective, our region’s participation in the Greensys 2023 symposium was befitting and has also spurred a sense of urgency towards adopting transformative climate action and approaches for sustainable Agricultural development from a Small Island Developing States (SIDS) perspective.“Moreover, with the recent R&D coupled with the successes and compendium of experiences exhibited by some of the key “movers and shakers” of Greenhouse climate-controlled systems in agriculture, this could very well serve as a catalyst for implementing practical solutions that cultivate resiliency, which ultimately would enhance the productive capacity and meaningful livelihoods of farmers and by extension advancement of the Agricultural sector”.
