MOA FORESTRY UNIT – Empowering Youth and Ensuring Food Security with Propagation Techniques

Food Security is defined as the availability of nutritious food to all individuals. As such, the Forestry Unit demonstrated how food security can be realized at home.

Amongst forty (40) 2nd formers at the Ottos Comprehensive Secondary School, on the 26th October 2023, Algenon Grant, Forestry Assistant and Sebastian Cochrane, Nursery Technician of the Forestry Unit within the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) demonstrated the propagation techniques used were grafting, budding and air-layering with citrus, mango and ornamentals.

It is vital to introduce young people to sustainable methods that can enhance food production. By engaging and empowering youths in these propagation techniques, we can equip them with skills and knowledge to contribute to food security and create a sustainable future.
