“F” is for FISH

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture have joined the alliance in the quest of educating our youth and future leaders about the importance of AGRICULTURE for our sustenance and very existence. This acknowledgment is realized and we are compelled to set a strong legacy and solid foundation as the plateau on which the youth can build for continued benefits.

Last week for World Food Day the Agricultural Extension Division held a series of events and activities bearing everyone in mind in accordance with the 2023 theme. A workshop was held for farmers, agro-processors and other stakeholders, some secondary school students were educated and trained in Hydroponics followed by a seedling distribution and veggie fair for all and sundry.

The Agricultural Science department within the Ministry of Education has taken it a step further. Recently the fifteen (15) preschoolers under the supervision of their teacher Ms. Kai Pelle of the Sir Luther Wynter Preschool were the recipients of some aquarium fish. For a part of the month of October the young students would be focusing on the letter F, “F” is for FISH.

The Ministry of Education used the opportunity to bring awareness of the importance of caring, and the benefits of food and agriculture at their young tender age even though these weren’t edible fishes the connection and focus were made. “It was an honor to expose our nation’s youth to aquaponics. We ignited a passion in addition to the joy to feed and take care of the fishes” said Mrs. Nicolette Francis, Agricultural Science Education Officer.

Last month, the students from Buckley’s primary were the recipients of young chickens as part of their Agricultural Science Programme.
