Training Course on Technology of Agricultural Water-saving Irrigation for Developing Countries
Four staff members for the Agricultural Extension Division were selected to pursue and successfully completed a “Training Course on Technology of Agricultural Water-saving Irrigation for Developing Countries” held in Beijing, China from August 9th to 29th, 2023.
The course was sponsored by The Chinese Ministry of Commerce and hosted by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Mechanization Sciences (CAAMS). In China, CAAMS is well known for agricultural engineering technology, Agricultural modernization, research, strategic planning, product marketing and international cooperation.
Participating from the Ministry of Agriculture were Miss Anika Aska, Mr. Joel Matthew, Mr. Victor Wade (Extension Officers) and Mr. Ayo Simon (Backyard-garden facilitator). The course had several components that involved theoretical engagements, and practical or procedural applications which included several field visits, and a presentation session where each participant had to deliberate on different topics.
The general consensus of the quadruple team was that the exercise was a very good one and would recommend others to attend. It made them realize that although they were natives of a small developing country measures which were already executed locally pertaining to “WATER CONSERVATION and HARVESTING” were on the right track. However, since Food Security is the order of the day, the course reiterated an already known fact which is the importance of “STORAGE”.
Unanimously, it was agreed that Water is an integral necessity for Food Production and that locally there is much more to be achieved in this regard.
