National Literacy Day 2023
Last Thursday, 2nd March was observed by Primary schools across our twin island as Literacy Day. Under the theme “Literacy: Enriching lives and preserving our Culture”, the Gospel Light Elementary School was no exception but rather they seized the opportunity and held a literacy on the lawn event.
Like a big garden picnic on the grass, students, teachers and parents were outdoors, under umbrellas, on blankets, in costumes happily entertaining each other with story reading, dramatic presentations and reciting poems. The atmosphere was very welcoming, bubbling with excitement and laughter. It was a refreshing and happy place to be.
The target was not simply to read any old book but the topics ranged from comedy, fairytale, fiction, environment and agriculture, littering/pollution and natural disasters to name a few. Carol-Faye Bynoe-George, Communication Officer for the Ministry of Agriculture was invited as the main reader/speaker at this event.
