GREENBAY PRIMARY STUDENTS FIELD TRIP
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Barbuda Affairs (MAFBA) continues with its mandate to educate and disseminate information through various outreach mediums. In an effort to continue this quest a field trip was held on Friday 18th November. Thirty (30) first graders from the Greenbay Primary School went on an excursion hosted by Extension Officer Joel Matthew and Agricultural Assistant Mario Beazer of MAFBA Extension Division.
Excitedly the six and seven years old journeyed to Faragar Farm located in Ras Freeman, Liberta. Matthew explained to the students the importance of Agriculture then made the introduction. While there they were given a short tour by the owner, Fitzmorgan Greenaway. Mr. Greenway is a mix farmer however the intended purpose of the trip was to focus on livestock animals, specifically on Cattle. Farmer Greenaway explained to the students about the benefits of being a farmer, what commodities can be sourced from the industry such as the food they eat and the clothes that they wore.
The highlight of the farm visit was the milking of a cow. The children witnessed Farmer Greenaway manually milking a cow and that was their first encounter for such an activity. They were all elated about the actual process and they also got chances to hold the container and to smell the milk. “This milk is all natural and one hundred percentage Organic,” Farmer Greenaway informed them. Some of them declared that the smell was different to boxed or canned milk that they were accustom to.
The excursion also involved having lunch at Wadadli Nature Park. While there the students saw Peacocks and Peahens, donkeys, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, fishes, parrots, monkeys, ducks, turkeys, chickens and rabbits. This was the second highlight for that day, for many it was their first time but for all it was quite an experience.
