{"id":9958,"date":"2024-06-14T18:01:55","date_gmt":"2024-06-14T18:01:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/agriculture.gov.ag\/?p=9958"},"modified":"2024-06-15T12:15:53","modified_gmt":"2024-06-15T12:15:53","slug":"cdced-adjudication-exercise-phase-1-by-carol-faye-bynoe-george","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agriculture.gov.ag\/index.php\/2024\/06\/14\/cdced-adjudication-exercise-phase-1-by-carol-faye-bynoe-george\/","title":{"rendered":"CDCED Adjudication Exercise Phase 1 by Carol-Faye Bynoe-George"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last Thursday 6<sup>th<\/sup> June, was the conclusion of the first phase of the Community Development Citizens\u2019 Engagement Division\u2019s (CDCED) Community Gardens and Beautification Competition (CGBC) Adjudication exercise.<\/p>\n<p>There were six categories to choose from and participants could have competed in as many as they could based on the type(s) of garden(s) they owned.\u00a0 These were as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Flower Garden<\/li>\n<li>Herb &amp; Spice Garden<\/li>\n<li>Fruits &amp; Vegetables Garden<\/li>\n<li>Stone Garden<\/li>\n<li>Water Garden<\/li>\n<li>Best Kept Community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, participants were divided into five zones depending on the locale of their homes. \u00a0The first phase of the adjudication exercises commenced from 3<sup>rd<\/sup> June in the East Zone, 4<sup>th<\/sup> June in the North Zone, 5<sup>th<\/sup> June in the West Zone, and climaxed on 6<sup>th<\/sup> June in the South Zone.\u00a0 Barbuda adjudication was conducted on 9<sup>th<\/sup> May.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The 2024 competition had gardens are as follows<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>North Zone<\/strong> encapsulates Mount Pleasant, Longfords, Cedar Grove, Royal Gardens, Crosbies, Soldier Bay, Weatherills Estate, Marble Hill, McKinnons, Crown Gardens, Anchorage Road, Old Runaway, Yorks, Villa, Gambles Terrace, Pigotts, Potters, Potter\u2019s New Extension, Skerrits Pasture, Sutherlands and Cassada Gardens.\u00a0 That area had <strong>40<\/strong> entrants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>East Zone<\/strong> consists of Christian Hill, Bethesda, Freetown, NewField, Lyons, St. Phillip\u2019s, Willikies, Seatons, Glanvilles, Parham, Pares, Gunthropes, Fitches Creek and Paynters. That area had thirty (<strong>30<\/strong>), however two of the gardens were scheduled to be adjudicated in July.<\/p>\n<p><strong>West Zone<\/strong> comprises of Five Islands, Grays Farm, Grays Hill, Cooks New Extension, Golden Grove, Jennings, Bendals, Belmont, Buckleys, Clarks Hill, Seaview Farm, and Herberts. \u00a0This area had twenty-three (23) participants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>South zone i<\/strong>ncludes All Saints, Jonas Road, English Harbour, Liberta, Follies, Patterson Estate\/Horford Hill, Bolans and Old Road.\u00a0 There was Sixteen (<strong>16<\/strong>) applicants but two (2) were scheduled for adjudication in July.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Barbuda <\/strong>had four (<strong>4<\/strong>) registrations.<\/p>\n<p>A total of one hundred and thirteen (113) gardens were registered for 2024 which was an increase by<\/p>\n<p>68 percent of the 2023 entrants, i.e., thirty-six (36) participants registered last year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a great experience and heartening to see so many participants. We look forward to visiting again for the second phase of judging and seeing how the gardens evolve over the next few months\u201d, said Mrs. Vashti Ramsey-Casimir\/Head judge.<\/p>\n<p>The second phase of the adjudication exercise is scheduled for October, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe encourage all participants to continue with the preparation of their gardens\u201d, said Miss Tanya
