{"id":8104,"date":"2023-12-18T12:54:44","date_gmt":"2023-12-18T12:54:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/agriculture.gov.ag\/?p=8104"},"modified":"2023-12-18T12:54:44","modified_gmt":"2023-12-18T12:54:44","slug":"col-l3f-ict-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agriculture.gov.ag\/index.php\/2023\/12\/18\/col-l3f-ict-training\/","title":{"rendered":"COL L3F ICT Training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the 21<sup>st<\/sup> and 28<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0of November, the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture\u2019s Extension Division launched an ICT training course for all farmers. \u00a0After the break for the Christmas\u00a0Season;\u00a0It is expected that training will be continued in January 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The Commonwealth of Learning is an intergovernmental agency formed by the Commonwealth heads in 1987\u00a0and Its purpose is to create and widen access to opportunities for learning.\u00a0However, The COL L3F lifelong\u00a0programme\u00a0was launched in June 2017 and it\u00a0offered the potential of long-distance learning\u00a0through the\u00a0application of communication technologies to education.<\/p>\n<p>The Programme offers five components of computer knowledge and record keeping using Word, Excel email, Google search, data collection and storage to assist farmers in recordkeeping and developing their livelihoods. This first training had approximately thirty (30) crop and livestock farmers in attendance and was facilitated by Mr. Everton Joseph and Mr. Valmont Harmon.<\/p>\n<p>In Antigua and Barbuda, the COL\u00a0project\u00a0is led by Mr.\u00a0Owolabi Elabanjo\u00a0(Chief Extension Officer) and project assistant\u00a0Petranilla\u00a0Estreada-Joseph (Agricultural Assistant III). \u00a0\u201cI appreciate the farmers&#8217; efforts to participate and develop their livelihoods and I urge them to keep moving forward. \u00a0I am grateful to the Commonwealth of Learning for providing continued funding for the L3F lifelong project and for the facilitators who have\u00a0disseminated their\u00a0ICT skills and knowledge to the farmers.
