This exercise hosted by Dr. Chere Kellman, a Veterinary officer and assisted by Miss Alexandria Dowdye, a Veterinary employee was poorly attended.<\/p>\n<p>There are over one hundred and twenty poultry farmers registered on the island but only a few have been attending these sessions. The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) through its Veterinary and Livestock Division began hosting a series of seminars for the poultry farmers in order for them to be aware of the recommended and the requirements for them to operate in the poultry industry commercially.<\/p>\n<p>The first seminar focused on the Farm layout and addressed matters pertaining to the following:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Pen Orientation<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Drainage<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Roofing<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Construction materials<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Manure Storage<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Garbage Disposal<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Feed Storage<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Egg Storage<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Equipment Storage<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Bait Station<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Farm Office<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Parking<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Bathroom facility<\/p>\n<p>While the second session covered the following matters pertaining to Biosafety:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Shed Infrastructure<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Personnel and Activities<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Poultry and Production<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Egg Collection<\/p>\n<p>The goals of these seminars are:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 To develop and carry out Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 To curtail standards to be applicable to the local farmers<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 To consider hindering factors in the implementation of these standards and create solutions<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 To evaluate farmers\u2019 feedback and compliance with standards<\/p>\n<p>MOA wishes to encourage ALL poultry farmers to attend the upcoming seminars, the information shared is invaluable and would aid in the compliance that would be expected for clean, healthy farms, poultry and eggs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/agriculture.gov.ag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/b3a569c8-6e87-4cb3-b604-caedc0db0ad5.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-7714\" src=\"http:\/\/agriculture.gov.ag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/b3a569c8-6e87-4cb3-b604-caedc0db0ad5-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/agriculture.gov.ag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/97010766-e03a-449f-87f0-bf6923d0a9de.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-7716\" src=\"http:\/\/agriculture.gov.ag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/97010766-e03a-449f-87f0-bf6923d0a9de-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/agriculture.gov.ag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/28c3b845-b20e-406f-96ee-6f862dca80a2.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-7717\" src=\"http:\/\/agriculture.gov.ag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/28c3b845-b20e-406f-96ee-6f862dca80a2-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/agriculture.gov.ag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/e065ee75-e340-4960-aa63-7ce97bf16185.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-7718\" src=\"http:\/\/agriculture.gov.ag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/e065ee75-e340-4960-aa63-7ce97bf16185-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday 26th October the Veterinary and Livestock Division held the second Poultry seminar.
