The Ministry of Agriculture synergizing the Minister of Education will reintroduce the Antigua and Barbuda Agricultural Forum for Youth (ABAFY).\u00a0 The relaunch is scheduled for 14th January,2025, hopes to usher in a new era of youth involvement in the agricultural sector. The event is poised to provide a platform for young people to engage with innovative agricultural practices and build a sustainable future for the industry.<\/p>\n

The ceremony is scheduled to be hosted by Miss Emerald David\/Statistical officer. \u00a0An overview of ABAFY is to be delivered by Ms. Carol-Faye Bynoe-George\/Head of Communications Unit\/former ABAFY Director.\u00a0 and Honourable Anthony Smith jr.\/Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Fisheries and the Blue Economy will address the importance of youth installment and empowerment in agriculture.\u00a0 The Minister’s vision for ABAFY and similar projects supported by Mr. Walter Christopher\/Permanent Secretary and Mr. Gregory Bailey\/Director within the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, endorse that youth involvement is paramount for the legacy and further development of the sector.<\/p>\n

Additionally, remarks will be given by Mr. Ika Fergus, Extension Officer and former ABAFY President, offering insights into the growth of the forum and its role in developing future agricultural leaders. Mrs. Nicolette Francis\/Agricultural Science Education Officer, will discuss the evolving role of agricultural education in schools, while Mr. Craig Thomas\/IICA National Representative and ABAFY\u2019s 1st President (2001), will share his vision for youth-driven agricultural opportunities, IICA commitment and his personal endorsement for ABAFY.<\/p>\n

The ABAFY Relaunch is more than just an event; it is a call to action for the youth of Antigua and Barbuda to step into the agricultural sector with passion and creativity. With a focus on education, innovation, and collaboration between both Ministry of Education and Ministry of Agriculture, ABAFY aims to create lasting change, empowering young people to take on the challenges of traditional practices to a resilient and sustainable industry while contributing to the country\u2019s food security and economic growth.<\/p>\n

Some of the activities ABAFY members would be able to participate into includes scholarship, internships, trainings and participation in local, regional and international forums.\u00a0 In collaboration with Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) both ministries are determined to support this organization and the agricultural sector through the youths of this Nation.<\/p>\n

This relaunch serves as a reminder of the crucial role youth play in shaping the future of agriculture in the Caribbean, and with the right support and opportunities, they are poised to lead the way.<\/p>\n
