\"MayThe International Day of Agriculture highlights the critical role that agriculture plays globally in sustaining societies, fostering economic stability, and addressing food security challenges. For Antigua and Barbuda, the Ministry of Agriculture with the assistance of regional and international agricultural organizations such as CARDI, FOA and IICA are fervently working towards the expansion of a sustainable agricultural sector in an effort to contribute to the country\u2019s economy, supporting local livelihoods and reducing reliance on imported goods.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In recent times, despite limited arable land, the twin-island nation has made strides in developing a resilient agricultural sector and the quest is still an ongoing process. Local farmers grow a variety of crops, including fruits, vegetables, and livestock, contributing to the nation\u2019s food security. Recent efforts to modernize the sector include introducing sustainable practices like water conservation, drip irrigation, soil rehabilitation, and organic farming to combat climate change.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), CARDI and IICA, provides essential support through training programs, subsidies, and climate adaptation strategies. Initiatives like drought-resistant crops, solar-powered irrigation, and permaculture are vital for countering the growing environmental challenges facing small island states.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
