Grants totalling US$12<br \/>\nMillion and ranging in size from US$ 260,000 to US$2 million will be provided for the<br \/>\nimplementation of EbA solutions within the marine and coastal zones of 10 Caribbean<br \/>\ncountries. \u201cEbA has been recognized to be among the most cost-effective approaches in<br \/>\naddressing climate risk\u201d shared Karim ould Chih, Chairman of the EbA Facility Committee which<br \/>\nhas oversight responsibility for the Facility. \u201cThe EbA Committee is extremely pleased with the<br \/>\ntransparent and effective process employed in the identification and selection of projects\u201d he<br \/>\nadded. The EbA approach employs the use of biodiversity and ecosystem services as part of an<br \/>\noverall adaptation strategy to help people in adapting to the adverse effects of climate change<br \/>\n\u201cWe had a tremendous response to our first Call for Proposals resulting in a very competitive<br \/>\nprocess\u201d reflected Joth Singh, EbA Facility Programme Manager. \u201cThe 11 projects to be funded<br \/>\nin the insular Caribbean will provide a range of actions including protected areas\u2019 management,<br \/>\nrestoration and rehabilitation of ecosystems, reduction of land-based stressors, measures to<br \/>\nreduce physical damage and pressures on ecosystems, installation of artificial reefs and hybrid<br \/>\nsolutions relevant to the EbA approach\u201d Singh added. The projects will be collectively<br \/>\nimplemented in Antigua &amp; Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti,<br \/>\nJamaica, Saint Lucia, St Vincent &amp; the Grenadines and Trinidad &amp; Tobago.<br \/>\nThe successful lead agencies are (in alphabetical order): Centro Agron\u00f3mico Tropical de<br \/>\nInvestigaci\u00f3n y Ense\u00f1anza, Dominican Institute for Integrated Development, Fauna &amp; Flora<br \/>\nInternational, Fundaci\u00f3n Grupo Puntacana, Fundaci\u00f3n REDDOM Rural Economic Development<br \/>\nDominicana, Grenada Community Development Agency, Inter-American Institute for<br \/>\nCooperation On Agriculture, J\/P Haitian Relief Organization, Mona GeoInformatics Institute &#8211;<br \/>\nUniversity of the West Indies, Saint Lucia National Trust, and the University of the West Indies &#8211;<br \/>\nCentre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies. CBF Chief Executive Officer,<br \/>\nYabanex Batista, was delighted on completing the selection process. \u201cWe expect that<br \/>\nagreements with the selected organizations will be signed in November of this year leading to<br \/>\nfunds being disbursed soon thereafter\u201d expressed Batista.<br \/>\nThe EbA Facility aims to issue a second call for proposals in February 2020.
